Despite having no residential attachment to South Wales, Rev. George Griffiths played for Glamorganshire against Breconshire at Brecon on 6 and 7 August 1872. The visiting team had arrived without five players and on the morning of the game included Rev. Griffiths plus a soldier from the local Barracks. He scored 1 in what proved to be his only innings and despite their lack of manpower, Glamorganshire won by five wickets.
Raised in Tewkesbury and educated at Cheltenham College and Wadham College, Oxford, he subsequently became the long-serving Vicar of Cheltenham St. Mark’s.
