1899 saw Glamorgan record six victories, with home and away wins over both Wiltshire and Berkshire. Herbie Morgan, the hard-hitting batsman from Penarth, also struck a maiden Championship hundred in the opening game of the season at The Oval, before making 105 against Berkshire at the Arms Park – a match which also saw William Russell weigh in with a career-best 143.

On the bowling front, Harry Creber, the left-arm spinner, took 97 wickets and throughout the summer, received useful support from off-cutter Sam Lowe as, for the first time in Glamorgan`s short history as a Minor County, the Welsh county possessed a potent spin attack to exploit the worn surfaces in the multi-day matches.

However, the standout performance of the season came at the end of June during the match with Surrey 2nd XI at Swansea, as Billy Bancroft, on his home ground, hit 102 and then took a hat-trick as the visitors were beaten by 53 runs.
